Congress spokesperson Gourav Vallabh announced his resignation from the party, citing discomfort with its current trajectory. In a social media post, Vallabh expressed concern over the perceived lack of direction within the Congress.
Vallabh stated, "The directionless path the Congress party is currently taking makes me uncomfortable. I cannot support anti-Sanatan slogans nor can I criticise the country's wealth creators day in and day out. Therefore, I am resigning from all positions and the primary membership of the Congress party."
He shared a two-page resignation letter addressed to party president Mallikarjun Kharge, expressing his emotions and principles. Vallabh emphasized the importance of transparency and truthfulness in his decision-making process.
In previous electoral endeavors, Vallabh contested the Rajasthan assembly election from Udaipur constituency in 2023 but faced defeat to the BJP candidate. His political career began in 2019 when he contested from Jharkhand's Jamshedpur East, securing the third position.
Vallabh criticized the Congress party's direction, alleging a departure from its fundamental principles. He expressed concerns over the party's stance on issues like caste-based census and its perceived opposition to the Hindu society, which he believed contradicted the core values of the Congress.
Vallabh's resignation coincides with boxer Vijender Singh's defection to the BJP, indicating shifts within the political landscape.
